When creating this illustration, I was able to practice different techniques of painting and didn't rely on an original sketch. Being more free and unrestricted with my painting produced some results I'm quite happy with, especially because the thought of realistically rendering hands originally caused me some anxiety. I chose to illustrate a geisha after my research into Japanese culture and found the traditions of geisha to be so beautiful and inspiring. The fact that geisha translates into 'art doer' seemed to make this illustration all the more appropriate.
