Project Description

Part of a collaborative illustration blog, this piece had to creatively reflect a theme chosen by a blog administrator. The theme for this particular illustration was 'boxed.' I attempted to illustrate a piece which reflected some of the negative connotations of the idea of 'boxed.'

Personal Thoughts

Immediately upon hearing the theme, I knew I wanted to illustrate something a little more broody than my typical work. I began sketching and quickly settled on a melancholy and whimsical character. The rest fell into place quickly. I adopted a much looser and quicker painting style for this piece and limited my color palette as well. In the end, loosening up, and not over-thinking my decisions resulted in one of my favorite pieces.
