Self-Promo Candy Box

Project Description

As part of the Communication Design, Honours program at NSCAD University, students were required to design and create a piece which they felt accurately reflected their personality, design aesthetic, and individuality. Incorporating other pieces of work for promotional purposes was suggested but not mandatory. The piece was intended to be tailored particularly toward the area of design in which the student hoped to one day specialize. Very few restrictions were given to ensure the student utilize all of their creative ability to create a final product which met the criteria while remaining unique to the student.

Personal Thoughts

This particular project was challenging for me in that I was still quite inexperienced at the time of its design. The candy box idea was developed after creating a list of words I associated with myself such as playful, energetic, and bold. Additionally, the decision on form allowed me to focus my attention on four areas of design I love: identity, package, illustration and display typography. Addtional pieces of my work were included inside the candy box to identify other skills and abilities, but were kept small to leave the viewer hungry for more. Of course, several types of candy were also included to ensure a cheerful disposition while viewing my work. Ideally, this piece would be memorable enough to result in a phone call.
