Eyecons Directional Signage

Project Description

The graduating thesis exhibition for the 2007 Communication Design (Honours) class took the form of an aged and abused army headquarters. Visitors were required to navigate through the exhibition and interact with particular elements while leaving others alone. As such, a series of directional and explanatory signs needed to be created to assist visitors in the experience. The signs first and foremost had to be informative, but also match the paradigms already in place by other exhibition elements. The signs can be seen in context HERE.

Personal Thoughts

These signs proved to be one of the most rewarding design challenges I was faced with for the thesis exhibition. The technique used for digitally weathering and aging the signs allowed for maximum flexibility and quick changes. The print-outs were simply mounted on foam and hung strategically throughout the exhibition. In the army context, many visitors thought the signs were actually distressed metal and commented more on them than on my individual thesis piece, seen HERE.
