New Children’s Books!
Introducing Gimli and Goat!

At the studio I’ve had the pleasure of working on two children’s book for a first-time writer. I’ve always wanted to illustrate a children’s book and lucky me, two dropped onto my plate at the same time. It’s been a bit of a challenge in that the author had a style of art in mind that’s quite different from the one I typically work in (which is pretty obvious when looking at the rest of the art on this site) but it’s still been an enjoyable experience.

Scaredy Goat is still in the illustration stages but will be going to the publisher in October. The charming story details a young goats struggles with insecurity and being bullied. By realizing his special attributes are a positive part of who he is, Goat is able to find his spot at the farm.

My artwork for Wrong Way, Gimli has been sent to the publisher and the final book will be available for purchase soon. The book is about a young goose with no sense of direction who ultimately realizes he isn’t the only one with shortcomings. If you’re looking for a great Christmas gift (hint hint) be sure to check it out!
Reworking an Older Piece. “Broken”

I’ve been busier than anticipated lately but have still managed to squeeze in a little bit of personal work along the way. This is just a quickie re-work of an older piece.

Case Study - Vampire Photoshop

I’m posting a case study for a fun photoshop challenge I took on a few months ago. All the steps are included to show the process of taking a regular photo of myself and turned into a vampire beastie. Since this was a personal experimental project, my source images were gathered from Google image search and won’t be included here. I will say, however, that the source images were two photos of Sir Ian McKellan for wrinkles, some pictures of gorillas, and random photos of men with scrunched up brows. Experiment! Have fun!

5 Easy Ways to Customize Your Workspace and Workflow
5) Customize Your Stacks for Easier Readability

A great feature for Leopard is Stacks. It allows you to add regularly-used folders to your dock which will fly out to reveal contents when selected. Unfortunately, they aren’t always easy to visually identify. An easy way to customize your Stacks is adding drawer overlay icons. The icon design at Optica Optima has created some awesome overlays to use with your Stacks folders.
To add the icons to your Stacks, download the set and move the appropriate icon into the folder you’re placing in your Dock. When you drag that folder into the Stacks area of your Dock, a handsome icon overlay will appear on top providing quick visual identification.
